Love Note: Epic Shit
Mr. Rogers and The Best of All of Us
(Click here to see a video of Mr. Rogers in his own words: http://youtu.be/zP-T31Dw0jw)
I am a person who intentionally doesn’t tune into the news much, but since hearing of the Boston Marathon tragedy yesterday, I can’t seem to stop watching the coverage. Listening to the updates, trying to glean any new information as it slowly trickles through to the public. The news outlets continually flashing the images of this horrific event—photos, videos, interviews, and the like—all of them painting a picture of what happened. Terror. Heartbreak. Tragedy.
Anguish. Despair.
How can human beings do this to one another? What is going on in our world to cause individuals to act against their fellow man in such a vile and evil manner?
And then, from the midst of all that…I saw this photo of Mr. Rogers come through my Facebook newsfeed last night, and it caused me to pause.* As I read the words of his quote, I felt the stirrings of hope for the first time in the hours since the bombings occurred.
It was then I was able to see beyond the explosions and the smoke in the news images to the policemen, firefighters, first responders, EMS, doctors, nurses, volunteers, and good Samaritans who ran TOWARDS the danger to assist the fallen, the broken, and the bleeding.
These are the helpers. The unintentional heroes. The best of all of us. The beacons of humanity shining forth, showing us that in depths of darkness, there is light.
Hold fast. There will ALWAYS be light.
Yet another simple lesson from our favorite cardigan-sporting neighbor.
*A big apology…I don’t know the original source of this photo. If anyone does, please let me know, and I will gladly give a photo credit!

I will refuse to wait.
You don’t have to wait to be discovered. You don’t have to wait for an okay. You don’t have to wait for someone else to help you.
You can try to do whatever you want to do. Right now.
You may not succeed. But you don’t have to wait.
Don’t wait.
